Definitions and Hepatitis C Symptoms

In order to have a clear understanding of Hepatitis C and Hepatitis C symptoms first let's start with the a definition.

Hepatitis C is a infectious, blood-borne, viral disease caused by the hepatitis c virus. The infection can cause liver inflammation that often has no noticeable symptoms, at least at first, but chronic Hepatitis C (later phase hepatitis c) can result in cirrhosis and liver cancer as the disease progresses.

The Hepatitis C virus is a small, single-stranded, positive sense RNA virus in the family Flaviviridae. Although Hepatitis A, B & C have similar names and do all cause liver inflammation, they are distinctly different viruses.

One of the most important parts of this definition to understand is there are rarely noticeable hepatitis c symptoms in the early phase after infection. This is the "acute phase" and usually lasts around 6 months. It is rare to identify infection in this stage as the hepatitis c symptoms hardly ever exist and if they do exist, don't appear as anything serious enough for most people to seek medical attention.
